LERD traces its roots to Lakebelt Farmers Cooperative Society Ltd., which was registered in 2020 to support farmers in the lake region with agricultural development, cooperative governance, and economic empowerment. Over time, the organization recognized the need for a broader, research-driven, and multidisciplinary approach to addressing environmental, health, and socioeconomic challenges affecting the region.
In 2024, the cooperative transitioned to Lakebelt Ecosphere Research and Development, expanding its scope beyond agriculture to encompass comprehensive research, policy advocacy, and development initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of youths, women, and marginalized communities. While LERD has evolved, it remains embedded within its cooperative roots, ensuring continued support for sustainable agriculture and rural development.
Lakebelt Ecosphere Research and Development is a progressive organization committed to evidence-based solutions for sustainable development. With its rich history rooted in cooperative principles and its expanded focus on research and advocacy, LERD is poised to drive meaningful change in the lake region and beyond.
